The ONFERNO’S CAVES: unearthly beauty

Onferno’s Caves are some of the most important caves that you can find in Italy... these wonders that open at the base of the great chalky massif on which once stood the "Castrum Inferni" are one of the masterpieces that nature offers us in the Romagna's hinterland and that are easily reachable using our hotel as a starting point.

This nature reserve presents various types of flora and fauna. The internal temperature of the caves that hovers between 12 ° and 13 ° offers an ideal environment that hosts colonies of bats.
The original name "Castrum Inferni" was later also called INFERNO... this was due to the steam fumes that in the twilights of the winter months were emanated from the rocks leaving to think that under the rocks the entrance to the underworld was hidden...

So how to lose such a peculiar phenomenon?! Visiting a magical and otherworldly world like Onferno is just one of the many leisure possibilities that the Rimini and Romagna's hinterland offers...

The reserve is protected as it is characterized by rare types of flora and fauna, there are also true colonies of bats and the internal temperature is stable and oscillates between 12°-13°.

Reaching the caves from the Hotel Estate in Torre Pedrera di Rimini is very easy. Also by BYCICLE!
Surroundings: Cattolica, Riccione, Gemmano. Carboniano deserves a brief visit to the tiny and intense Marian Shrine with an effigy of a 16th century Black Madonna.

HOW TO GET IN:

BY CAR: the Caves are 30 km from Rimini, on the Statale 16 in the direction of Riccione until the junction for Morciano. From Morciano, continue along the Conca path to Santa Maria del Piano, then turn left to Onferno. Another route, more tortuous but also more scenic, is the one that turns left for Gemmano. Faster the first route (less than 1 hour), more challenging and along the second.

BY BUS: line 124 from Rimini, then to Morciano line 172. Travel time just over 1 hour and a half (phone 0541/24547).

BY BYCICLE: challenging route, from mountain bike, with daring climbs for true tireless pedal that comes to Gemmano and then descends to Onferno. The one that follows the directions for Santa Maria del Piano is easier.
