The area that covers 700 square meters, includes several buildings: the most interesting is certainly the Domus del Chirurgo, but the excavation has brought to light other structures of considerable historical and artistic importance, including traces of an early medieval settlement. remains of a late imperial home.
SURGEON DOMUS:
The remains of an ancient Roman domus of the 2nd century D.C. perfectly preserved, which offers a splendid example of Roman architecture with mosaic floors and ceilings and walls decorated with polychrome frescoes.
The large number of finds and mosaics found in it, carefully preserved, present the identity of the owner allowing us to discover the fascinating past of this military doctor (coming from Greece) called Eutyches of the Roman era and proposing a faithful reconstruction of the house with a COLLECTION of 15 SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS.
THE OLD LATE PALACE:
Following the destruction of the Domus (dating back to about half of the III century D.C.), new city walls were built, which also partly incorporated the domus.
A palace brought to light by the excavations dates back to the 5th-6th century, in the southern part of the complex that developed around an internal garden embellished with a nymphaeum fountain with canals and includes numerous rooms decorated with polychrome mosaics.
The CEMETERY of the Early Middle Ages:
The Sepolcreto which succeeded to the decay of the late Ancient Palace (which was buried after its destruction) shows the skeletons of the bodies still visible in the excavation.
